Emergency Steps You Can Take
ACT FAST! – Acting fast is the #1 step to increase the chances of recovering your lost ring or valuable.
The Florida beaches are some of the most heavily visited beaches in the world. Many hobby metal detectorists are searching day and night and may find your lost ring first. Ocean wave action and tides can sink a lost ring out of metal detection range just overnight.
DO NOT POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA! – Unfortunately there are unscrupulous individuals that will use this information to search for your lost item and keep it. Contacting a recovery service is the best chance of recovery before posting anything on social media lost and found, etc.
STOP DIGGING – If you did not see exactly where the lost ring landed, moving the sand around may only push it deeper in the sand or slide it further away.
MARK YOUR SPOT – Enable location (GPS) on your phone and drop a pin at the exact spot you lost the item. Do not take your eyes off the area. Find a fixed landmark (beach life ring, trash can, access stairs) and line it up to where you are standing. If lost in the water, note the depth (was the water at your ankles, knees, or waist?)
WHAT WERE YOU DOING? – Shaking the beach blanket, throwing a football, bending over to pick something up, writing in the sand, a child tore it off, fell out while walking in or off the beach, etc.
TAKE A PHOTO – Take a few pictures of where you were standing (with location turned on) when it was lost that show the landmarks, the beach entrance, lifeguard stands, etc.
